What Do Celebrants Do?

(And why it might matter more than you think)

You’ve probably heard the word “celebrant” floating around — especially if you’ve been planning a wedding, attending a funeral, or thinking about a naming ceremony. But you might still be wondering ‘What does a celebrant actually do?’

Well — here’s the simple version:
A celebrant is someone who writes and leads bespoke, meaningful ceremonies. No scripts. No rules. Just deeply personal words and real human connection.

But if you ask me?
A celebrant is someone who holds space. Who listens with their whole heart. Who weaves your story into something you’ll never forget.

Let me explain...

We’re not registrars (and that’s a good thing)

In the UK, legal weddings have to be conducted by a registrar or a religious official. That process is often short and scripted — think: pre-approved words, tight time slots, and not much room for personality.

Celebrants offer a completely different experience. We may not sign the legal documents (that bit’s still done at the registry office), but we do get to make the ceremony — the bit you’ll actually remember — truly yours.

It’s the difference between ticking a box… and creating a memory.

We write every word, just for you

No templates. No fill-in-the-blanks. Every ceremony I create is crafted from scratch — shaped by your story, your values, your voice.

Whether I’m telling the love story of how you met, honouring the life of someone deeply missed, or welcoming a child into the world, I write with heart, honesty, and a bit of soul.

The goal? To make you feel seen. To reflect the truth of who you are, and what this moment really means.

We hold space (gently, confidently, and with warmth)

Being a celebrant isn’t just about what you say — it’s about how you show up.

On the day of the ceremony, I’m there not just as a speaker, but as a calming presence. Someone to centre the moment. Someone you can trust to handle the emotions, the nerves, the unexpected stuff — and still bring it all back to what matters most.

I’m part writer, part guide, part grounded-best-friend energy in a nice outfit.

We believe ceremony still matters

In a world that moves fast, ceremony invites us to slow down — to mark something meaningful, to say “this matters.”

That’s what I do.

I help people honour the moments that deserve more than a passing glance. Whether it’s joy, grief, love or transformation, I believe every ceremony is an act of remembering what it means to be human — together.

So… what does a celebrant actually do?

We help create spaces of love, meaning, connection, and joy.
We help you mark the moments you’ll never forget.
And we do it with words, care, and heart.

If that sounds like something you need — for a wedding, a farewell, or a new beginning — I’d love to hear from you. Let’s create something beautiful.
